October 2005 Theme ~ "Portrait of a Lady"

PORTRAIT OF A LADY

As the hours pass by
My mind wanders to a stranger
Who passed my coach today
As I felt an inner danger.

Was I just contemplating
A fear of the unknown?
Or were his eyes staring
Right through my very bone?

I must sit her and not move
As the artist does his best
My mind cannot escape
My thoughts I must not test.

THE LADY

The lady looks haughtily off in the distance,
People misjudge me often by mischance.
born into a family of money I may be,
But given a chance, I'm not a snob, not me.

I try to be friendly, I try to be kind,
I try to help everyone, I really don't mind.
But now has come the time I will just stare,
Let people think what they want, I really don't care.

TRUE LOVE'S CALLING

Dressed in all her splendor
Waiting for a time
For a happily ever after
And a true love she shall find

When he comes a-calling
Dressed in all his best
She'll greet him with a smile
And let destiny do the rest.

WHO IS IT?

I know a secret, Just me, alone.
Soon to be shared with one other.
I'll tell him that he'll be a Father,
For I am becoming a Mother.

The miracle is just beginning.
A person who wasn't, will be.
Wonderful blessing, joy of new life.
It has finally happened to me!

SMALL PORTRAIT

I always find her revealing
The upper body open aired
The hand clutching for her cover
Eyes always hiding faint despair

I think she knows not her beauty
Soft colours play on porcelain
Nimble fingers so delicate
So very shy around the men

THE LADY IS A TRAMP

Look at me, what do you see?
Elegance, breeding and finery?
That may be so, but do you know?
Whether or not that's really me?
I have secrets, dark and deep,
That are my own, yes mine to keep,
Should you come in, turn on the lamp,
Voila! You'd find that I'm a Tramp!
