March 2006 Theme ~ "Bridges"
Bridge of Memories
I stand upon this bridge of time
Of memories long since passed
To dark and light and in between
Thankfully some that did not last
In my mind, a darkness stood
Feelings of great despair
To find a simple way to end these thoughts
For who would really care?
A simple touch was all it took
A guiding light of hope
A way to help me cross this bridge
Helping me to cope
So now I'm on the other side
This bridge has now been crossed
A soft smile now upon my face
For I am no longer lost

My Bridges
Bridges in my life
From present to the past,
Sometimes they stand forever
Sometimes they fall too fast.
No matter how they turn out
I've still learned a lot no doubt,
Of how my life has been
And what it's all about.
Those bridges that I've seen
And the ones that even now still talk,
Will take me into my future
From the bridges of my past I walk.

The Bridges of Life
I look back over the years past
Into the shadows of my memories
Of the journey I have taken to reach this day
The bridges in time that I have crossed
To learn the wisdom that I have gained
With no regrets I look at my yesterday
The bridges are there if I need to return
I never did burn my bridge as I passed
Now I look to the future
With a new pathway ahead
A new bridge to walk over
To lead me on in time
On my journey in this puzzle called life
With the unknown of what lays in secret ahead
The mystery is a teaching path
It is how we learn in this journey of life
'Til we cross our last bridge in this time
To where the waters will lay forever calm

Friendship Bridge
The Friendship bridge is long and strong.
It's bound by friendships short and long.
By colors of all race and creed.
The friendship bridge has no beginning and no end.
This friendship bridge spans the world around and around.
From one side to the other it catches one and all
And helps people discover a new friendship.
From halfway around the other side of the
world or right in your own back yard.
The friendship bridge will always be there, forever growing.

Bridges
Many many times I question your love
I need to know you're there in Heaven above
Too many sorrows for me to comprehend
When will my time come for it all to end
The bridges of life have been so steep
From a high clifftop I often want to leap
Pain has been with me for many years
I need some peace to hide my fears
I live each day as if there's no tomorrow
I've passed each hurdle in order to grow
I know each lesson will be a another test
So I'll leave it up to you to do the rest
Just remember I need some sign from you
So I can feel your love that is so true
It will help for the bridges I still have to climb
And release the doubt 'til the end of time

Bridges
Through troubled times or nights unslept
when I look up and see a bridge
the tide is tough and I need a break
but that won't help me win.
Were I to take that bridge so free
and not swim through the storm
I'd never learn the lessons
that I need to make me strong.
So let me pass and do not pity
my road of rocky ridges
And wish me luck as I struggle by
I can't accept your bridges.

Bridges Built
standing by the rivers edge
his words, had driven a wedge
a gap, life would never be the same
but who really is to blame
glancing down the river
her mind, she gives a shiver,
like a circle, begins to wonder
deep in thought, starts to ponder
the bridge of life can do two things
what you see, is what it brings
can make a love grow further away
or bring your love home to stay

Sonnet ~ Winds of Change
When flowers bloom along the hill,
They seem to represent our life.
Never to stay our lives not sealed,
from day to day hardships and strife.
But if the blossoms soon will pass,
They make way for the next to grow.
Bridging the future with the past,
The Spring takes charge over the snow
So winds of change come over me,
And deplete my mind of cold.
Replenish my life, I foresee,
the worth of our lives not in gold.
Take from me the doubts and fears,
And stay with me through out the years.

My Fear of Bridges
It's 7:57 a.m. and I'm gonna be late,
I've done it, no choice, the bridge, it's a date.
Thoughts of another route pop into my head,
Forget it, get moving, accept it, I said.
Approaching this monster, it looms in the distance,
My foot on the gas, I feel the resistance.
I look to the sky, hold fast to the wheel,
I'm talking to God and we've made a sweet deal.
Bridges they scare me, no matter what kind,
Something about London Bridge shoots fast in my mind.
Remember it fell was it only a rhyme?
Don't worry, it's almost over, all will be fine.
The speed of my car is climbing past 60,
In less than a minute this all will be history.
Day after day I cross this same bridge,
I feel like I'm walking on a really tight ridge.
Look straight ahead, don't look down, and stay focused,
In time I hope this is all hocus pocus.
My fear about bridges is with me forever,
Will I get through this phobia? I doubt it, not ever!

Bridges!
I work with bridges every day,
I work for civil engineers!
I've read about all sorts of bridges,
Big ones, small ones, covered ones, fallen ones.
Each one is so interesting, but only a few
will end up in our journal!
At my office, bridges are popular,
Why we even have a calendar just for them!
But what else can I say about bridges?
They've been a part of my life forever,
After all, I grew up in the city of bridges...
Pittsburgh!

A Heaven of Sand and Stones
Build me a heaven of sand and stones
A castle out of sprays of sand
Where I may rest at the close of the day
For refuge from a whole day's run
Build me a heaven 'neath the azure sky
A little house far from the road
Where I can see the swallows as they fly
And the sampaguita leaves as they fall
Build me a heaven of little rocks
A residence that's stable and sturdy
Where the catastrophes of life
Could never topple down facilely
Build me a heaven of muck and soil
A hermitage away from civilization
There will be drawbridge and a moat
And walls from clashing religion
Build me a heaven of sand and stones
Not of bricks, of blocks and other stuff
For I do not wish to live on a throne
A home of sand and stones of love is enough
