March 2006 Theme ~ "Bridges"

There are many kinds of bridges....from gigantic bridges that span rivers and take us into beautiful cities, to creaky old bridges over country creeks. There are other kinds of bridges in our lives....bridges to our future, bridges over troubled waters, bridges that we build, cross, or burn. The word BRIDGE can mean many things. Our assignment was to write a poem that in some way reflects the theme, BRIDGES.

Congratulations to our March winners!

The Bridge of Friendship

When you cross the bridge of friendship
And get to the other side
There's someone there to meet you
And their arms are open wide

Tell me about your day, they say
Let us walk for awhile in the sun
Forget all your troubles and enjoy
This time is now for fun

Leave your burdens and sorrows behind
There is no place for them here
When you cross the bridge of friendship
There are never any tears

I will always be waiting for you
And my arms will be open wide
I love you my friend
And this you should know
I will always stand by your side

A Strange Yet Peaceful Bridge

When I was young I dreamed of a life
Fairy tale romance with a husband and wife
Many years have passed along the way
My dreams have faded and long gone astray.

Just a little girl who grew too fast
With babies and bottles, no dreams of a past
Now a gramma with my little pride and joy
But what happened to dreams of that special boy?

What happened to going back to school
To being someone special and so cool?
Dreams of making money and having it made
Sort of got lost in the shuffle and began to fade.

My bridge has taken me from year to year
And tossed and tousled and landed me here
But my bridge has held strong and faithful and true
For the boy I dreamed of I still see in you.

We may not have made millions as we wanted to
But our adventures have taken us together as two
Hand in hand we have been as the years have gone past
And I wouldn't trade them 'cause it's been a blast.

Bridges I Have Crossed

The bridges I have crossed
Were so very hard to bear
Until the decision came
With my Lord, I would share.

Life can deal out some rotten blows,
The reason why this has to be,
Is something I can not fathom
to understand or even see.

The one thing I am sure of
When a bridge I come to,
It is much easier to cross
With my Lord, to see me through.

Bridge of Dreams

One night I had a vision,
suspending me in time
I saw a bridge, a crossing,
so clear within my mind.

I paused to get my bearings,
and yet I could not see
Just where it was I'm going
on this path in front of me.

A chill swept through the shadows,
a mist had gathered round
Soon enveloping the bridge
with an eerieness I found.

Alone I felt suspended,
a choice I had to make
Upon this bridge I'm standing,
the path which holds my fate.

The mist was all-enveloping
as I began to cross
And hoping on this endless bridge
that I would not be lost.

Then through the shadowed darkness
I saw the other side,
And all at once I knew the bridge
of dreams would be my guide.
