June 2006 Theme ~ "The Quilt"
The Quilt
Patchwork memories
On every square
To tell your story
When you're not there.
Piece by piece
Remembering you
Your life experiences
The things you used to do.
Stitched together
By bridges of thread
To symbol Life's meaning
Whether spoken or unsaid.
Surrounded by a border
That makes it all one
The Quilt of your life, Mom,
Sadly is done.

The Quilt
I stand there looking at this quilt,
I think of those the quilt represents,
Each square a story,
A story of someone's life, someone's love,
As I stand there in quiet reflection,
Looking at each patch,
Reading each name carefully placed,
Lives and loves from all walks of life,
Woven together within this quilt,
This quilt knows no hatred, no color,
It only speaks of loved ones,
Loved ones who perished often way before they time,
And it speaks of those who loved them enough,
To add their square careful to this quilt,
The quilt that does not speak of death,
But is a celebration of life,
This quilt who travels from country to country.
To raise awareness for AIDS
And gives those of us who placed a square,
Comfort in the thought that our loved ones did not die in vain.

The Quilt
Little bits of fabric, a needle and thread
A beautiful quilt to place upon your bed
Made with lots of love and great pleasure
A gift for life and one to always treasure
One square made from Dad's old shirt
Another a piece of my Mum's favourite skirt
An old piece of a family picnic blanket
Bits of material in the cupboard were kept
In this quilt there's a story to be told
That can never be bought or sold
It's embedded in this family quilt
Of which memories have been built

The Quilt
The quilt was patiently sewn
Each piece is sewn with love,
Stitch by tiny stitch
And thanks given to the Lord above.
She smiles as she sews,
To her child she knows
Each piece will bring back
Good memories of the past.
With the last stitch in place
She folds the quilt,
With a gentle smile on her face.
Tired, she lay down on her bed,
With past memories running through her head.
With a deep breath and the lightest of sighs,
She whispers a Thank You and closes her eyes.
At peace with herself and the way her life stands,
She places herself in the Lord's caring hands.

The Quilt
I remember great grandma's quilt
It was big and warm and fit the bed
She put a lot of work into it.
I laid on the couch with it
Great Grandma's quilt went over my head
Over half of the quilt laid on the floor
Great Grandma's quilt had
a lot of colors. It was also heavy.
On the top it had yarn bows sewed on.
The bottom of the quilt was soft,
almost with a velvety touch
My mom loved it very much
My mom kept it in her loft. She kept warm
with the quilt, with the house's morning mist
When my mom died, my grandma had a yard sale
My Great Grandma's Quilt was on sale for three dollars
I thanked the Heaven's above that it did not sell
Instead my Great Grandma's Quilt was buried in the landfill's dirt
To this very day I miss my Great Grandmother's Quilt
Still full of guilt that I did not save "The Quilt"

The Quilt of Life
A thread we take with a carrying hand
In the shadow of our mind
A vision to make to bring to life
With each stitch that is sown
Is a day in our life on this this journey we do take
With each patch we place in the square of life
That brings together our experiences in time
For the days, the weeks, the years that pass
To look at the work that is not yet done
To see the patterns form the reflection from our mind
The colors so different they may be
To show the friendships that we hold close
The hard and the good times
And the memories we do think of most
A new born child in a mothers arms
The color of the seasons in each and every year
We all hold in our heart ever so dear
For each stitch that is sown
Binding together all that is known
To bring together this Quilt of Life

The Quilt
Quilt of life is sewn with lots of love,
heartache, sorrow, and pain,
each stitch sewn with lots of love
and compassion with the colors,
each displayed of emotions felt.
The moods of many who stitch
quilts of love show through
the colors they choose to stitch
shows through the brights and darks too.
To end with a beautiful work of art
made for some one very special,
A new baby or even a bride to be,
some times even for a furbaby or two.

The Quilt
I was scouring through my old closet the other day
when I found the patchwork quilt Granny once gave me.
It looked soiled with a tinge of orange and yellow
and a portion's torn out just a little down below.
The black triangle that served as axis to the rest
had turned to grey with a whitish crest.
It was surrounded with greens and soft earth tones.
Quite a hard mix, it seemed overblown.
The colors on the left are quite a delight,
an array of pastels all stark and bright.
The patterns vary from yellows and blues.
What a slew of exclusion and excellent hues!
The orange swatch made all the overt difference.
It was so dark and vivid, it gleams with luminescence.
While the block at the right stars in beaming pride
with all the reds and pinks sewn in gleeful vibe.
Whatever the reason why Grandma made it for me,
be it a legacy or a mere present for my birthday.
I would forever hold it close and shall never part
for this is how much she loved me, she gave me her heart.

Quilts
The word quilt,
it invokes memories
of a time long past
Women working hard
creating quilts to
keep their family warm
Quilting parties,
friends sharing stories together,
sweet treats cooking away in the kitchen
Is there a more motherly feeling
than to tuck your child in at night
with a quilt made by your hands?
Quilts,
we cherish them
and the stories that lie behind the stitches.

Q uickly how this can...motivate...overwhelm...
satisfy us, a quilt. We look at our life
U nveiled square by square, a memory...a glance...
a step ahead or behind us.
I ndividual mementos, sewed on pieces
of cloth. These
L asting pieces of life frozen in time...staring
back at us, reminding us. Each one
T ogether intertwined stitch by stitch, the love,
feeling, and emotions involved. There are
S o many memories...so many squares to share
and sew on my quilt of life.
