June 2005 Theme ~ "Love in Bloom"

June is a popular month for weddings. With that in mind, our assignment was to write an original poem using the theme "Love in Bloom", and relating to romance, weddings, anniversaries, etc.

Our winning poems are below, followed by the other contest entries for June.

Congratulations to our June winners!

Marriage

Being married's a matter of paper and rings.
It's also a matter of less tangible things.
Marriage is promising, with all your heart,
That you'll always be lovers, and you never will part.

Marriage is time spent building a life,
With a past and a future shared by husband and wife.
Marriage is learning what I need from you,
And I learn what you need, and give it to you.

Marriage is living through good times and bad.
We comfort each other when things get too sad.
Marriage is loving and trying and crying,
And because of your promises, never goodbye-ing.

We've promised to love each other for life.
We've planned our old age as husband and wife.
We've lived through the years of both hard times and good.
We've cried when we had to, and laughed when we could.

We've laughed and we've loved, we've shared and we've tried,
We've lost faith in each other, we've cussed and we've cried.
Tender hearts listened and love pulled us through.
After all these years, I still love you.

The Rosebud

Sweet delicate beauty
traced by fragrant hands
A gift of love to celebrate
the dreams and life we plan.

With words to richly cherish
its presence so divine
The rose bud lingers softly there
as if by love's design.

In fields embraced with wonder
a scent to always last
Long into our twilight years
that joins us heart to heart;

In every new dimension
enveloped by the taste
Of velvet petals shimmering
in the warmth of love's embrace.

Pure gentle beauty
of tenderness and love
In celebration of the life
that you and I dream of;

Captured in the rose bud
a sweet and fragrant kiss
Its gift of great expression,
a life of happiness.

I Loved You

In the fog of early morning
when nothing else is clear
it is clear that I loved you.
And while the feeling here is fragile
and frost can change my view
It's still true
I loved you.
If nothing ever changes and nothing stays
the same
if daylight and nighttime
switch their names
It won't matter that it's cold or light
or that it's dark or warm
The mists will only ever say one thing
I loved you, I loved you
Once we were together
and I loved you.

Love

Candles lit
Dinner with wine
Holding hands
Two hearts entwine.

Eyes meet
Contented smiles
Love endures
All the miles.

Richer, poorer
Sickness, health
Traveled together
Is its own wealth.

Love is two sided
Sharing and caring
Done together
Ever enduring.
