DECEMBER THEME - WINTER MEMORIES
Poem 1
As I raise my glass full of seasons cheer
My thoughts return to an earlier year
Of winter cold so long ago
Knee deep outside in the freezing snow.
Mum at the door calling our dad –
Telling him off for being so bad
Aiming snowballs in my direction
SLAM –off in another trajection.
We come inside at her call
Hanging our coats on the hook in the hall
In the kitchen waits hot soup for us all,
Hunkered around the blazing fire in my parents love
What more could I desire?
“come here babe” and a big kiss
That hug and kiss is what I miss
No seasons card now for me to send
Unconditional love right to the end
My mother and father my best friends.

Poem 2
Memories
Smiling, happy faces,
Bright ribbons and mistletoe,
Stockings filled with candies
Stretch out in a cheery row.
Sparkling tinsel on a tree,
Lights in green, red and blue,
A gently drifting snowfall,
Making every thing look new.
Shared smiles and merriment,
Smells of succulent, roasting goose,
These are the memories I carry –
Treasures I never want to lose.

Poem 3
The Thrill Of The Hill
Steep was the hill, and deep the white snow.
The kids in the town knew just where to go.
Dad made the sleds from tin in the shed
So none lacked the thrill of a ride down the hill.
Wet from the snow; noses red with the cold,
We gathered around the big bonfire so bold.
Mitts thrown aside; parked now the sleds;
While laughter and chatter sounded the thrill.
Shadows grew long before all were gone.
The tracks on the hill were worn down so long.
Weary and slow were the kids tired tread
To homes where their feats on the hill they'd reveal.
Up in the morn to see if their fun
Had melted by night or the bright morning sun.
And when they all found the snow had not fled,
They made their way beck to the thrill of the hill.

Winter Memories
Snow in the foothills on the ground
Made me want to spin around and around
I used to live in the Bay Area no snow there
With no freezing bitter cold air
With the snow came the ice
I fell on my bum not once but more than twice
No boots for good traction to keep from falling down
With wet pants going to the bus stop I looked like a clown
Finding out that I was not the only one with wet pants
We all started telling each other about our snow chants
Other than falling or should I say ice skating to the bus stop with no skates
Playing in the snow all day long or until I ran out of clothes which I hate
I don't mind the snow at all
Just as long as I never fall
I'm just glad that I live at a lower elevation
The snow here is a rare acclimation

Poem 5
The Greatest Christmas Gift of All
God gave his newborn son to me so that I can now be free...
It's up to me to take Him in and accept Forgiveness of my sins..
It's amazing how a Babe so small had the Strength to Master all.
As He grew he was to be a young adult just as me.
Prone to evil Satan tried, even had Him crucified.
With His great Love He died for me,
to cleanse my soul, this was to be...
What this his Great Man has meant to say,
is to believe in God is the way..
Faith is great but can't be all, we have to act upon His call...
I once was blind but now I see, for God's gracious love has given me.
The greatest Christmas gift of all, to arise again after a fall.

Poem 6
Sledding With Daddy
Slipping and bumping along
As my daddy pulls the sled
I reach down to scoop up snow
My mittened fingers outspread.
Axe thrown over strong shoulders
He tromps right through the drifts
Icicles on bowed wires
Shine like silvery gifts.
First to the pond to chop the ice
Then the cows line up to drink
While beyond the holes I skate
I'm on my very own rink.
Watching for the perfect tree
We make more trails in the snow
This one daddy!....I proclaim
And he agrees, his eyes aglow.

Winter Memories
Beautiful lights
‘round the Christmas tree
Decorations out
For everyone to see
Mom’s favorite carol
We loved to sing
About a drummer boy
Who played for our king
Stockings hanging safely
By the warm fire
Waiting for Santa
Trying not to tire
Memories of my childhood
Bringing a smile to my face
Being with my family
Is a memory nothing can replace.

Poem 8
Memories of You
Each Thursday on the calendar I mark a little 'x'.
It represents that special night when your face I did caress.
We only connect by voice now, cause you are far away.
I have to close my eyes and visualize how you touched me in every way.
Not just by voice or hugs or hands or by your lips so sweet,
But in my heart and in my soul where you linger very deep.
I often have to catch my breath and wonder if its true,
Or is it just another of my winter memories of you.
I am pulled back to reality as there are chores that must be done.
Just please know that in my heart and mind ... you are my rising sun.

Poem 9
Mother's Memory
There is a special memory, My Mother solely owns,
Christmas Morning, a nursery, Just her and I alone.
The hospital seemed hushed that day, The nurses at their tasks,
My Mother held me where she lay, In loving hands, I basked.
A babe I was, just two days old, So new to life on earth,
Not used to hunger nor the cold, I'd left His arms at birth.
Why was I here? What did I do? He seemed so far from me,
Where was the Heaven I once knew? I must have wondered, see.
Then came the sound from down the hall, Beautiful Hymns of love,
Mom heard nuns in the earthly pall, I heard Angels above.
I'd barely left them recently, Memories fresh in mind,
It seems they'd not forgotten me, And sang along in time.
What a Heavn'ly gift we received! On that cold, winter morn,
Angels came to sing, They perceived, My ache since being born.
I thank the Lord for Mom, I do, She shared her memory,
For her, the recollection's true, For me, it's Heavenly.
