April 2007 Theme ~ "Mouse Tales"
House Mouse
When it's dark as night outside, I hear her scurry around
I lay in bed and listen but never make a sound
She rambles around my kitchen, stealing crumbs from cupboards to floor
She doesn't seem to have a hole, maybe she comes in under the door.
She snitches pieces of cat food and leaves me "presents" near
I am pretty sure she doesn't know that I know how much time she spends in there.
I don't want to set a trap or hurt her in any way,
Even the cat lets her go, sort of grins and walks away.
Maybe she has a family so I just let her sneak around
After I go to bed at night when it's safe and quiet and sound.

Mrs. Moon wanted to kill the mice
So she made a mouse-trapping device
But when she saw it
She almost fainted
My, the mouse was twice her size!

Temptations
Bright eyes sparkle and whiskers twitch
Such a distance to travel
Without some kind of hitch
Stomach growling at the scent of cheese
Makes the little furry feet scurry
For just a tiny bite if you please

My Little Friend
A mouse scurries across my floor this night
Cheeky in mood and so full of hype
He runs across to the toys on the floor
Right over there next to my door
He chases a ball
Sends it bouncing and spinning off my wall
And then he scampers right up the hanging window drape
Right there next to my bed where I lay
Then jumps across to my windowsill
And stops and looks right to me
With mischief written all over his tiny little face
So do you have any cheese for me
The bright light from the silvery moon
Casting his shadow that filled my room
He sits and watches the night outside
Then off he goes again to the other side
Yes my little mouse friend he does know
Every night I leave a special treat before he goes
For again tomorrow when the night does fall
I know he will be there so brave and tall

The Mouse
Cute as a button they are
They play in the field not too far
Mice are furry and small
They don't bother me at all

The Mouse
The little critter lives above my head and below my feet,
steals my dog's food and tries taking my bird's food and treats
often succeeds, then hides it in my pockets.
I wish they would go away, they're gutsy and have lots of nerve.
The mouse runs across the kitchen floor
no matter what I'm doing, if I'm in the same room or not.
The mouse poops wherever it wants and I always find it
even when I don't want to. I understand they need to hide
and stay warm when it's cold outside, but couldn't they
go hide in the barn instead of in my house?
My daughter always says now, when something goes missing,
"Mommy, the mouse took it. The mouse took my socks
and my storybook homework. My pencil and my eraser, oh, my movie too!"
"Mommy, Mommy, please make them go away,
but please make them give me back my stuff first
'cause it's not theirs, it's mine, and they can't have it!"

Mousey Jingle
There once was a mouse who scurried on the floor,
One day it passed me as I was heading out the door.
It caught me a little aback you see,
As that little creature was sort of laughing at me.
Little did I know that little creature had his eye,
Not only at me but I think my 3 cats in eye spy.
Who will be the winner of capturing this tiny thing,
Would it be Carla, Cal or Ty in their curious sing.
Cal kinda looked dopey not understanding what to do,
Carla straight nosed headed straight for it too.
Ty just sort of refereed who was the leader of the cats,
But that little mouse better scurry fast if that.
Carla started meowing in high pitched tones,
Little mousey was scurrying quick past the phones.
Ty sort of said I'll catch him from over here,
But little did he know Cal was already there oh dear.
Cal thought alrighty this toy is mine,
Carla was thinking something else that wonderful feline.
Ty said not if I could help it this guy is my toy,
In came hubby with mousetrap bye bye to this mousey boy!

Mouse Prayer
Dear Mouse,
I know you’re there I saw you last night
You put me in a state of endless fright.
So here is my mouse prayer just for you.
Your eyes are black, beady, they pierce my soul
You need to scurry around, go back in your hole.
Your legs are gnarly sticks and those bent little ears
So elusive, you streak across my floor in high gear
You carry a whole lot of unspeakable germs
I’m not wanting to set up any terms.
You're gray and round and a ball of fuzz.
Please don’t bother me anymore just because.
So I'm praying no more mouse.
Running through the my house.
No more next time for me to be scared
If there is a next time I’ll be prepared
I’ll grab my bat…and my hunting cat.
Amen.
