A Picture's Worth a Thousand Words

The poems on this page were written using the picture below as inspiration.

Sunset greets me as I open the door
Each evening it looks more lovely than before
The day is through and night draws near
I take a deep breath and let my head clear

I mentally wash the day's stress away
Tomorrow will come and bring what it may
But for now as I gaze at His wonder before me
I feel contentment in all that may be.

Sunrise Memory

In loving memory of my grandmother Evadne Hodgetts 28th Oct. 1922 - 4th Sept 2000

The depth of sunlight at the door
Remembrance now forevermore
Of all the things you used to be
Is but a faded memory.

Though morning brings a bright new day
Still it can never take away
The love and warmth that in your arms
I found in you all that I loved.

When sunrise greets me with a song
And harmonises all day long
Within the whisper of the breeze
The spirit of your soul flies free.

Then sunset comes to take away
The ending of another day,
And there I hold the memory
Of all the things you're still to me.

I Open My Door

I open my door to see the rising of the sun
The morning dew still lingers vaguely
in the early morning air
The sun shines to brighten my day.

My path lies there before me
I am here for yet another day
My spirit shines through allowing life
in colors to show and skies are clear
No darkness in this day for me
The beauty of rest that all will see
When they open their doors on this beautiful day.

The Door to Heaven

In loving memory of Jesse Jamerson-Loomis, December 4, 1985-August 30, 2006

The door to heaven has been opened
A new angel has crossed over
It was a spur of the moment
Jesse got his wings on the Rover.

Jesse will never be seen on earth
Jesse is now on heaven's turf
For what it is worth
Jesus loved Jesse first.

Jesus called Jesse home
Jesse is free to roam
My love for Jesse has grown
Jesse will remain in this heart of my own.

The Open Door

An open door is like your heart
When I look out, I see the world
As a beautiful place to be
The sun shines on you and me.

But shutting the door, it leaves a hole
A hard place, that holds no future
A lonely place, being alone
When the heart turns to stone.

So leave the door wide open
And let the bright light in
Even it's not daylight all the time
An open door makes you shine.

Morning Glory

The sun breaks through the eastern sky
Peeping through the soft fleecy clouds
It stifles a yawn and gently simpers
Then blows a kiss to the sleeping world

The somnolent mountains spring to life
Like the dainty flowers in bloom
Little birds perched on tree branches
Chirp in unison to greet the royal sun

The sweet scent of red rose blossoms
Fill the morning air with heavenly perfume
While bees hum seductive tunes to the flowers
As they flap their wings with the butterflies

The sun gives a lazy wave of greeting
As i walk through the little heaven
Anticipation consumes my senses
As nature unfolds its pristine masterpiece

'Tis But A Dream

Traveling through this mortal world
Brings me to a door
Opening it I stare in awe
At what awaits for me
The beauty of the distant mountains
Veiled in the sun's orange shower of color
Inviting me to visit them
To climb to the very top
Across the green of the passage in front of me
I must cross
In order to get to my journey
For that is what calls me
It reaches into my soul
And begs me come
I dare not look at the sun
But must follow it
If I am to reach my victory
The door stands open
Do I take the challenge?

I stand at the door this September morning
with tears upon my face
As I watch my son get on the bus for school
His first day of Junior High

I am so very proud of my "Little Warrior"
Though not so little anymore
He is growing up to be a fine young man
Despite all of the odds

I thank God for giving us both this day
For letting me keep him
And for carrying us through these last five years
Five years, cancer free!

From the doorway of life an angelic sunset appears,
Blazing with bright glistening amber sheen.
Inaudibly speaking words
Of hardships and gentle deeds.

In the distance are the mountains individuals ascend
In the nearness the plateaus that are paced.
Each day brings some obstacle,
There to strengthen and to embrace.

The brilliance sweeps in with every force that stirs the soul,
Bringing awareness to be glad today,
for the goodness, pleasure, love,
And the friendships that we make.

The breezes are singing like wings winnowing in the air,
Perfuming the winds with sweet breath of pines,
Calming the mind and senses,
Hinting of days gone by.

From the misty clouds a celestial angel is observed,
Hinting of the abundance we acquire.
A dazzling golden sunset,
Is a pleasure to admire.

Another tomorrow has arrived
Darkest of night, I have survived
Sorrow and pain slip away
Before the spreading light of a new day
Take that step into the morning
No more tears outpouring
Let your song be a new one
Greeting this glorious rising sun
Shed the past and its pain
Look at what there is to gain
A shining beacon calls you
Shimmering over the morning dew
