Miscellaneous Assignments

This mini assignment was to write about shopping - love it or hate it

Shopping

I hate to go shopping
It drives me mad,
The things I would buy
If the money I had.

Grocery shopping
I do as early as I am able
My list neatly written,
Then left on the table.

Oh the number of times
We handle our spoils,
Its not time efficient
And adds to our toils.

From the shelf to the cart,
Then to the Cashier
Back in the Bag, into the car
Insanity beckons I fear.

Remove them from the car
Put onto the shelf,
How I wish that I had
A wee shopping elf.

I spend lots of money
Bring home bags of things,
Pack them away
No joy this brings.

I then sit down with coffee in hand
Glad to take the weight off my feet,
Family come in and go through the things,
"Didn't you go shopping - there's nothing to eat?"

Shopping Wars

It's that time of year again
when we deck the halls
With trees and lights and all the things
to lure us to the malls.

Yes, Christmas time is drawing near
and suddenly it seems
Shops so normally quiet are now
bursting at the seams!

And yet once upon a time
not all that long ago
You could avoid the "shopping rush"
by going when it was slow

But those days have long since passed
and we find every day
It's always overcrowded
with people in the way!

It must be that I'm older now
I find creative ways
To avoid the ever-growing crowds
and relentless consumer trade!

And just when I got a handle
on my new shopping routine,
They lumber us with Christmas
in a lightning flash, it seems!

So now although I have put off
battling shopping wars,
There's only so much from Avon
I can buy apart from stores -

For it used to be just Christmas time
when shops were busiest,
Now it seems that all the year
they are a crowded mess!

No longer can I cope with crowds
they leave me in a tizz
Especially when I'm surrounded by
a dozen screaming kids!

So yes I must be getting old
but Miss Adelaide, not a word
Or I will take you shopping too
and I promise - it will hurt!

Shopping Addiction

Frustration hits when the isles I explore
My limited budget just won't allow much more
I need soap, shampoo, and milk
But oooh look at that shirt made of silk
Why can't the billfold be filled with cash
So I don't have to use my grocery stash
Eyes to the front not even a peek
Though at that pair of shoes a glance I did sneak
Nope, I'm being good today
For at home there are bills to pay
I can do it, I know I can
Extra spending I did ban
At the cashier now I stand
My money in hand
I've done good, not a penny more
But then I toss in some candy, not one but four

Christmas Shopping (the easy way)

I used to love to Christmas shop,
I'd race from store to store,
I'd hit a mall and clean it out
And then I'd hit some more.

But time and age has slowed me down
I'm almost to a stop,
No longer can I run around,
And shop until I drop.

And so I go a different way,
With catalogs, you see,
My mailbox is full every day,
They bring the world to me.

It's very easy for me now,
What did I do before?
For I can have a world of gifts
Delivered to my door!

There's crystal from the Irish Isle,
There's pottery from France,
And toys and pretty ornaments
And sweaters, shirts and pants.

I can even buy a cow or chicks,
To celebrate His birth,
To give to needy families
In all parts of the earth.

My catalogs have everything
From food to kitchen sink
And shopping is a pleasure now,
It's done quick as a wink!
