Miscellaneous Assignments

This mini assignment was to write a 12 line poem (or less) about
your first childhood sweetheart - whether it be a childhood crush or your first love -
but it MUST be from your childhood.




My First Love

I was thirteen when I saw him there
On the Deck of ship waiting to sail,
I felt him watching me in the distance
And all to no avail.
He was ten years older than me
And we became firm friends.
Our journey took us in different ways
But we still share a joy that never ends.
Each year since 1961 I have received a card
Filled with love and tender words
For forty seven years in my mail
A Valentine's card to say he cared.

My Childhood Prince

I thought he was a cutie
with mischief in his eyes
He had a smile so cheeky
but that was no surprise -
We'd play down in the paddock
where he would make me laugh,
And make believe a fairy tale
of princess dreams and love.
I guess we were all of 6 years old
but the memory still lives on,
When my prince would come and make me laugh
long after he has gone.

My First Kiss

I was only nine
And I thought he was just so de vine
I was quiet and shy
And he took the fancy of my eye
When he looked across at me
All I could do was freeze
I looked away
As though I didn't see
When really I did
Oh he was so handsome
And little old me
Nothing to fancy
He walked my way
And I was so scared
And then he was standing
Right there in front of me
I think I was the brightest shade of red
As he said
Can I kiss you
Well what could I say
That was a very special day
