Miscellaneous Assignments

Our first mini assignment for 2006 was to write a poem about a New Year's Resolution, real or imagined.

Resolve

Every year the same old thing,
As the bells of New Year ring
Resolutions and some more,
Broken promises galore.

Perhaps before my days are done,
The time will come I'll keep just one...
Exercise and lose some weight,
Clean out the attic, fix the gate...

Go through all those magazines,
Wash the windows, fix the screens,
Learn to swim or ride a horse,
Hope I don't fall off or worse.

But for now just can't give up
Cocoa in my favorite cup,
Sitting by the fireside warm,
Resolving to stay safe from harm.

New Year's Resolution

Well I do the same every year
The first day I always fear
I try so hard to but its not enough
I give in and light up for a puff.

Counting down
Good-bye to the old
Hello to the New
I know there are so many things I want to do
I always have a new Resolution
But I never seem to find the right Solution
So each year that passes me by
l always take one great big sigh
And just have a little thought
Of the many things I want to change
With the beginning of each new day
But then if I did all those little changes
Well
Over time
Would I still be me
But at this year's end
As I always do
Again I did make my New Year Resolution
Just like you and you and you

Resolutions resolutions
Should I make a resolution?
Maybe I will just sit and wait
Thinking of another solution.

I seem to do so good
At making them every single year
I work really hard at keeping them
For about a day, oh dear !

Hmm to be resolution free
And not let myself feel down
Yes this is the year that I will be
Resolution free bound !

This year I promise to myself
That I will give myself a world of wealth
Ignoring all of the boys and their toys
Just falling in love with myself

So very many times
I have tried in the past
To make a resolution
and they never last.

Therefore, I made a resolution
not a resolution to make
For without one made
there would be none to break.
