VEGGIE TALES: This assignment was to write a short, silly verse beginning with the words "If I were a vegetable......"

If I were a vegetable, the kind I think I'd be
Is a big old purple eggplant, 'cause they're kinda shaped like me
And I love the color purple, it's my favorite, don't you see,
So I think I'd be an eggplant, just please don't moussaka me! :-)

A tiny round and perfect little green pea
I could roll across the ground
I could bounce up and down
Yes if I were a Vegetable a pea I would be
My small round shape makes it hard for you to see
my rolling right on by you in the garden as you kneel
Because I don't want to be on the plate of your next meal

If I were a vegetable, oh so many I would like to be,
a carrot, tomato, possibly even a potato,
A pea I think is too small for me to be.
Eggplant my gosh I never even tried.

Oh, I've got it, I would be a bell pepper, oh gee,
that couldn't be me. I'm not hot or spicy
or even anything in between.

So many veggies to choose to be
but I've decided to settle on something small
but I guess stinky too, but really good
when done up just right, yup, that's right,
a Brussels sprout! yum yum, that's me!

If I were a Vegie I should like to be a Pumpkin
Cause if I were a pumpkin... I would really be just sumthin!
I would sit around all day and bask in the sunshine fair
And be larger than those carrots or the squash over there!
My round belly would be perfect for the shape of "Mr Jack"
And at Halloween I would be carved with a candle in my back.
I would scare the little kiddies and make them all just squeal
And my innards would make a sweet pie for the Thanksgiving meal!

I KNOW I would be
Chocolate 'cause it comes
from a plant, you see...
Yes, cocoa's a plant
of material form
From where the delectable beauty
of chocolate is born!
Yes, if I were a vegetable
I know it is true
That I would be chocolate,
mmm, how about you?
So next time you refrain
from that sweetest delight
Remember cocoa's a plant
making chocolate all right!

some would call me a fruit
but that's really not me.
I'm round, cute and bright
and wouldn't let you down
When added to a garden salad dish
You call me a vegie then, tish, tish.

I'll come in all the sizes
And go with any meal

A cucumber which can be all different shapes and sizes,
Short and squat or long and skinny,
I could be pickled and used to win prizes.

I have so many favorites
They all would do the trick.

So maybe if I'm lucky
I could be each one
Mixed up like V-8 Juice
Now wouldn't that be fun?
