This assignment is to think of a word that holds "promise" - just ONE WORD - and write about what that word, and its promise, mean to you and why you think it is important for 2009




Love

There is a song that used to play
on the radio
That used to tell us what we needed
so many years ago

But though nigh on 40 years have passed
it hasn't changed a thing
What we needed then we still need now
more than anything!

We've so much violence in our world
such terror, hate and fear
The grim statistics on the news
they worsen every year

And though times are always changing
the echo of those words
For peace and love to bring a hope
is not so absurd.

What the world needed in '65
has always been the same
A promise sought for every year
I guess some things never change -

And here we are still living in hope
but yet we refuse to see
While what the world needs is love
that is should start with me.

Dreams

The old year passes
As a new one begins
A time to hold in hope
Of what this year brings

My dreams I hold close
To my heart and soul
For it would be a gift sent
If they came to be told

My Dreams are just simple ones
Just little things to brighten a day
When I feel sad and blue inside
Just something to make me smile

I dream of peace that
Will shadow the darkness
To all corners of the globe
May the warmth of peace flow

I dream that life
Will know more suffer
Children will feel
The love of each other

Where animals will never
Feel the touch of pain
And the love they give
To us is our gain

My Dreams are simple ones
But I know I am not alone
There are so many that
Have this dream of their own

And in time these
Dreams will come true
Yes for both me and you
It is a dream we all strive too

Hope (for the New Year)

May I live in a world of peace
As I face a brand new year,
I hold fast the hope that the children
Can live in a world without fear.

I have hope that we all can be
Loving and gentle and kind,
May the pain of past years fade away
And the year be best we can find.

Dare to hope and dare to dream,
Reach out and touch the sky,
Soar on the wings of freedom
And you can learn to fly.

Hold tight to your hope
Share your plans and your dream ~
May hope be part of all you do
And all you plan and scheme.

Promise

The promise of a new beginning
Or maybe a second chance.
The promise of new memories
And maybe even romance.

A new year is here for us
Full of new promises for everyone
Some may just be starting
Others will finally be done.

Promises of a brighter future
Calmer nights and beautiful days
I see the promise of a wonderful life
Present in so many ways
