~Connie W~

Hello, Pet Lovers!
My name is Connie and I am a 58 year old wife, mother and grandmother.
We have been happily married many years. We live in the Phoenix, Arizona area.
We have four grown children and through the years we have had lots of pets.
Even growing up my hubby and I each had many different kinds of pets.

Let me see if I can remember a quick run down of the pets we each had growing up:
Connie: (raised in Indiana)
Cats, Dogs, Horses, Birds, Fish, chickens, ducks, rabbit
Hubby, Mike: (raised in the jungles of Peru, S. A.)
Parrots, monkeys, rice birds, dogs, baby alligator, possum, ocelot cat
Our kids here in the USA:
Dogs, Cats, mice, hamsters, rabbits, fish, gerbils

I drew the line on reptiles! LOL!

When our children had all grown up and left the nest (about 3 years ago), we still had our wonderful Spaniel mix,

Keesha. She was very old by the time the kids were all gone. We had her for 13 years and she got cancer and
had to be put down (about 2.5 years ago) when her quality of life finally was so bad.
It was harder on us than we thought it would be.

We still had our daughter's cat. You know how that goes, they want a pet, you get the pet for them,
they grow up and leave home. But the place they go doesn't allow animals. So we keep the cat. LOL!

We love birds and 4 years ago I got a sweet Love Bird.
We named him Peep because he make a noise that sounded just like he was saying "peep". A couple months later I got an Orange Chinned Brotogeris.
They are rare in the USA. They used to be called the Pocket Parrot. We named him Tuki.

Then 21 months ago we had the opportunity of getting an Amazon Parrot from a friend.
This was a sweet 10 month old baby that was talking and very socialized. We named her Sunny.
This bird reminded my hubby of many parrots he had in South America.
At this point we had 3 birds, one cat and one dog (Keesha).
Then Keesha passed, we were not going to get another dog. But after a year and a half
I was really missing the loving companionship of a dog. I had the birds, and we enjoy them, but a dog is different than a bird.

Then, after 2 years with Tuki, he was not bonding with any of us so I found a new home for him with a person who had other Brotogeris birds.
He is doing fine there. I am sure he is much happier with other birds of his kind.
By this time, I am really missing a dog. So, a year ago last Christmas (2007) Mike told me I could get a dog.
I checked the local rescues and I knew I wanted a small companion dog.
This is when I met JennaBug, at Finding Fido Rescue. She has a deformed tongue that can only go out the right
side of her mouth. But she can still eat and drink fine. She is a happy healthy dog.

Then this last Halloween our dear little Peep passed on. He was fine at 6 PM when we went out to sit on the porch to pass out candy,
and then when we came in at 8:30 PM he was dead on the bottom of his cage. We loved that little guy,
he was so sweet and loved to sit on your shoulder. So, we are down to one bird, one cat and one dog. That is where we are today!

Sammy is our cat and he is a good hunter. The vet thinks he is part Maine Coon.
He keeps the mice and other varmints away from the house. He wants nothing to do with Jenna.
We got Sam in 2003 as a kitten from the Humane Society. He mostly keeps to himself, but sometimes comes around for a good scratch.

JennaBug is our Shih Tzu rescue dog. She was already named when we got her.
We drop the Bug most of the time. LOL! When I saw Jenna at the rescue I was told by the girl who
was showing me around that she was adopting her so Jenna was not available for adoption.
They didn't have any other dogs I was interested in at that time. I was there talking
with them about what kind of dog I was looking for about an hour. This girl finally told me she would let me have Jenna.
She said she thought it was a good fit and that I was the right person for Jenna. Jenna has fit into our family very well!

Jenna was found on the streets as a stray and they guessed she was about 6 months old.
She was taken to the pound when the rescue found her there. She was on the list to be put down.
She was at the rescue for 5 months because the girl there wanted to adopt her when she had the money,
so Jenna lived 5 months at the rescue spending every night in a
30" cube cage. She was let out sometimes to play with the other dogs there. I think Jenna was happy to find a forever home.

Sunny is our Amazon parrot and what a hoot she is! She says several phrases, but you never know when she might say them.
She does learn from watching us when the appropriate phrase should be said.
When the phone rings, she waits until we pick up the phone and she says,
"Hello"in the tone we use for answering the phone. Tonight Mike asked me if I
wanted any salad he was making and Sunny said, "No, that's OK". LOL! She is a sweet hybrid.
Her daddy was a Blue Front Amazon and her mommy was a Yellow Nape Amazon.
She loves showers and is fun to watch when she gets wet. Sunny also flies around our house.
When we leave the kitchen and go to the LR where Sunny has a tree perch, she just flies in
after us and lands on her tree. We can even call her from one room to the other and she comes flying.

I have a page about our current pets on my web site where you can see pictures.
You can see it here: http://www.geocities.com/jomamawatson/ourpets.html
I also have a You Tube video there and when you get to You Tube you can click on More from clw51
and more videos of mine will show up on the right side to choose from.
Look for the ones with the pets in them. There are some good ones. :)

Thanks for letting me share our story! Hugs, ConnieW
