"This is my story"
Well My Life with My Companions (animals)
I am 58 years old and the Mother of three grown-up children.
A lovely Daughter and two Sons, plus six Grandchildren.
But they are only one part of my life.
I have had pets or animals all my life as far as I can remember back.
I have a natural way of understanding them due to all my childhood
I spent with them instead of people. You see I used to get out alone
and sit for hours with my dog or cat and talk to them, so I grew to
understand them and them me. And as I have grown older it still goes
that way. I have seven cats, one dog,
and one cockatiel.
My Cats - The Old School Ones
Rhubarb:
He is the last of his line. He is a dark tabby, lovely marked.
His Mum
came to us with her 2 sisters in 1992 from down the back of our house we lived
in at that time.
Rhubarb's Mum had two litters before we got her fixed and
Rhubarb and his sister Possum where born in 1993,alas his sister Possum
died of aggressive face and mouth cancer in 2002 and out of her second litter
Bikie was born and he too died in 2001. That left Pudgee, the Mum and she
died in 2005 also from cancer and she had "Cats Aids" as
well and I hadn't even heard of it until then. So now Rhubarb is the
last of the semi-feral farm cats and what a cat he is, he is 14 years
old and so warm and affectionate in his old age.
Now the above mentioned cat is from The Old School. He doesn't get on tables
or wreck my furniture (now anyway) and he does as he is told.
The New School Cats:
Well, we have first brother and sister, Faith and Spike.
Both adopted from the RSPCA. I was only supposed to keep Faith,
but Spike took a turn when he was about 4weeks old and the Vet gave a very short life span.
Spike lost the use of his back legs and was treated with antibiotics and as you can see he
came good and I couldn't bare to part with him then (I don't think I was going to anyway).
Well they both get their food on my kitchen table or in the lounge room on that table too.
Now my other older cat would not have dared to get on the table but that is what these two
wanted so they got it. Faith and Spike are both 7 years old this year (2009) and Faith is
a tortoise shell long hair and Spike a light tabby. Also Spike has to have steroid tablets
every morning for his bad immune system the rest of his long life.
Now we have (oh boy) Socks and Cinders, both Brother and Sister too also dumped as kittens
on a roadside near an airport. Someone picked them up and gave them to the Vet I go to, and
of course I went to the Vets for some tablets for Spike and these too little kittens were in
a cat cage on the desk at the vets and I said I’ll have them and I did. Now Socks is black and
white and he loves to talk to you and loves (and I mean loves) climbing up on ladders, cars
and my husbands 4x4 and he surfs on top while it is going if you don't notice him on top.
Now Cinders (oh boy), she is along haired A.D.H.D. black hypo cat. She sits and looks to
what she can get into next and then off, flat chat she goes. No slowing this one down.
These two also get fed on the kitchen table or in the lounge room. But it is my fault,
not theirs, as this is how I done it when I got them as kittens, so the other cats wouldn’t
take food from them. They are both 5 years old this year (2009)
Just as well we don't have many visitors. LOL!
Now we have a new addition “Missy” a fixed black female cat. She came to us early last year,
I found her under our water tank in April 2008, someone had dumped her, (the poor thing),
but I started to feed her under the tank and she got use to me after a month and decided
to come out from under the tank and come inside. She was very frightened and to this day
she still runs away from my husband but is getting better. She is a very affectionate cat
and is fitting in with the rest of the mob. I am guessing Missy is will be 1 years old in
February this year (2009)
We now have another addition another little black kitten named "Desiel"and he was under our
water tank this year (2009) and came into our house on the 29th of March. So something is going
going on as far as kittens under our water tank lol. he is a nice little fellow and is so
affectionate, but is still scared of our dogs,Sasha and Penny but I suppose he will grow
out of it as soon as he gets use to them. I hope we get no more under our tank next year.
LOL!
My Dog Sasha:
We got her as a pup from a pet shop and she is the most intelligent dog I have known.
She understands everything I say and when she was small I had my foot operated on
and could not walk well on my crutches. She soon learnt to fetch a ball and put it
in my hand as I couldn't get it, and that too was in the house LOL!
For exercising her, I taught her to play cricket. I would hit the ball
and she would go and get it and put it in my hand. Also I taught her to chase planes
(LOL!) and crows, mind you she can’t catch them but it is great exercise for her.
I just love her to bits. She is 8 years old this year (2009) and a Kelpie/Border
Collie mix and she is gray and slightly brown with white.

My New Dog Penny :
Penny is a ShitzuxTerrior and she is such an adorable little thing and intelligent
to go with it. Penny is 2 years old this year (2009) I was doubtful on getting another
dog but how could I resist her little sad eyes in the photo I saw. Penny has put a
bounce back into my step,as she is so happy and so active. I love her very much.
Her and my bigger dog Sasha get on very well now and Penny and Missy (Our new cat)
are great pals, infact Missy trusted Penny before anyone or any of the other animals
I have, oh except me of course. Penny keeps adding love and companionship to our
family but does have a bad habit of going off hunting which I do worry about,
especially in Summer with snakes around as Penny’s mother died from a snake
bite just after we got penny from her.
!
My Bird (Cockatiel) - Little Girl
She is the quiet one of the bunch.
She used to
whistle until she had a bowel infection
and was put on antibiotics and lost
her will to whistle and she cannot use her wings now.
I have to bathe her and
if she gets frightened she will just fall off the perch, LOL.
But she has an
iron will and is now about 12 years old and has survived with all her
cat friends.
My Goat - Bubbles
Put to sleep 27/08/2010
Well that is all of my fantastic pets and with all their different ways.
I wouldn't be without a pet. They have unconditional love for you and only
ask to be loved and feed and kept warm. “I WILL ALWAYS LOVE THEM WITH ALL MY HEART”.
