Attracting Birds to Your Backyard

~ By PCBeachlover ~

There are many things you can do to attract many kinds of birds to your gardens. I love birds, and love to hear them sing. I have always wanted to have a multitude of birds, all kinds, colors and sizes, in my yard. So I went searching to find out the kinds of things to do in order to attract them. Here are few of the ideas I found.

Plant a lot of running vines which flower. This will attract more birds, as they will have plenty of nectar to drink. You'd be surprised how many birds will come if you have enough flowers in your yard. Hummingbirds especially love the running type, so they don't have to fly so low to get to the nectar.

One thing a lot of people forget to do, or either don't realize they need, is to have some logs lying around somewhere on the property. Either as a border for your flower gardens, or as part of the landscape. The reason for this is that it provides shelter for grubs and insects, which birds love to eat.

Have several types of birdhouses. Not all birds will go to the same types, so be sure to have a variety. Also if you have lots of trees, this will provide nesting areas. Don't forget that martins love to live in gourds, so if you live in areas where martins live, be sure to put up a marting pole with several gourds. Have it several feet from any traveled areas, so that they won't be scared away.

And last but not least, be sure to provide a variety of bird seeds (birds do not all like the same types) and a source of water. Be sure to keep that birdbath filled, especially during dry spells, so they will have ample water. You wouldn't want to be thirsty and neither do the birds.

I hope this has helped you know what to do to attract those beautiful creatures that spread such joy and beauty through the world. There's nothing quite like a feathered serenade!
