Growing A Weed Garden
~ By Aletha ~
Do you ever wonder gee I like to
garden but it is so much work, I have to bend over and get rid
of the weeds; I have to feed the plants; I have to make labels
so I know what plant is what; this takes time and energy, but
I want something that is pretty but doesn't need a lot of work
and it is green and some have beautiful flowers on it?
Well a weed garden is all that and not much work, well some but
you will get enjoyment out of it and your neighbors will think
you've lost your mind and wonder what is with them or her but
you can just smile and tell them I am growing a weed garden, I
bet you never heard of that.
So here is what you do, are you ready? Okay let's go!
We need to prepare the land as you would a regular garden, you
also need stones or rocks and you do not want this near your
property line, as you know weeds will kill other plants that
invade their area. If you forget to water your weed garden,
do not worry it will still be green, yes green not like if you
forget to water your other plants. When you forget to water
them they turn down there heads and look so sad, but you look
at your weed garden and there they are, all smiling with heads
held high as if waving at you and saying "here I am waiting for
you hello."
So now we need to create a one foot border of fallow ground
around your weed patch. We need to place stones around the
edge of the weed garden. Now we need to have them go a foot
deep to prevent the root system from spreading and we also need
the stones to be out of the ground by 2 inches and you want to
make sure they butt up to each other so the tiny root system
doesn't grow through.
Now we want to keep are weed population in check so what we
need to do is cut them in half after they flower then we mulch
the desirable weeds, or as they say weed your garden lol. Here
is a list of weeds you can grow that make a nice showing:
Amaranth, Chickweed, Lambs quarter, Mallow, Purslane, Burdock,
Garlic, Queen Ann's lace, Dandelions, Sheep Sorrel, Stinging
Nettle and Yellow Dock
I know in some areas some of these are considered flowers, I
have heard Queen Ann's lace is but in the Midwest of the United
States it is regarded as a weed. I do have to admit some of
these are very pretty; I have a back acre that in spring is full
of Dandelions and when my kids were small they would run and
pick these little yellow flowers and come to the house all
smiles with joy on there faces and say "here Mom I picked you
flowers" and you smile and put them in a glass with water and
set them on the table and thank them.
So I hope you will look at the weeds and think "I can grown a
weed garden it is easy."
