Outdoor "Spots"

~ By Gardening Committee Members ~

So far we have discussed our attraction to gardening, how we decorate our gardens and the plants that attract us to place in our gardens along with exploring the journey of one particular plant from its beginning with us up to its present state. For this month's discussion we focused on spots, oh not the kind you see or think of first off when seeing or hearing this word, but another sort like what is a favorite "Spot" to sit outdoors?

We were to consider: What it is that attracts you to it; how you feel about it and what do you see and/or feel when you are there? What is surrounding you or what leads you to it more than any other space? Does it encourage relaxation, communication, peaceful contemplation and respite from day to day routines? Read on and enjoy :)

Aletha ~ I would say my Patio, My husband and I were also sitting outside this morning halving coffee while looking at the vegetable garden and talking about how we need to make it bigger so I can get more vegetables in it next year. I said I want to plant some peas and squash and cantaloupe and I need more room for my kale and I want to do spinach as I love spinach. I have a few posts for my herbs and have some herbs in the garden already but I am still working on the salad table that I hope to have finished in June; so much going on with work and the garden and cutting of the acres.

I like watching the rabbits come out and looking at my garden growing away and saying "oh boy good dinner tonight" yes, good dinner tonight …lol… and the birds going in there looking for worms and stopping and watching us. In the afternoon it is shade and in the morning sun it is sunny.

Julie ~ Well I can't really say that I have a favorite spot. I sit in my recliner most of the time and sometimes on the couch which I love it's so much better than the other horrible couch lol.

Outside the backdoor I have a cane couch where I like to sit and look at the pond. When I have my new garden with pathways, a creek and tall trees I'm sure there will be favorite spots then.

I have mainly reds and pinks in my garden at present. The Chinese Lantern is still flowering along with red and green leaves from the Bromeliads. I also have my Rhododendron in full flower and the small pond we have at the moment has about 10 fish in there and they are pretty big.

Kythera Ann ~ Hi all; hope you are enjoying a glorious season (spring or fall according to your location) as I am. I have so much work it is sad I am inside so much, but at least my view from the computer is always lovely and I can see the beautiful sunsets and sunrises through the trees, plus the squirrels and birds tap on my window to tell me when I need to fill the feeders, LOL!

So the place I enjoy nature the most often is from my computer, but the place on the property that I enjoy most is a very hard decision as there are so many lovely areas … continued

Diane ~ I have two favorite spots to sit and admire the outdoors. I sit on my swing on the front Deck and enjoy my morning coffee or in the evening we sit there, weather permitting and just have great conversations with the family.

The second is our back Deck where we spend a lot of time out doors because we can leave the dogs out with us to run and terrorize the neighbor dog LOL just kidding about terrorizing the neighbor dog.

Gardnbee ~ I was out sitting on our front porch area with my morning coffee trying to get my thoughts in order for the day. Things I would like to do is to pick up some annuals for all season color in-between my perennials here and there; some Herbs to grow in a container or two on our deck where the Bar-B-Que sits (easy access for cooking) some plants to put into containers for the front porch to give me company when sitting out, etc.

Looking at my outdoor living spaces I realize that the place I sit within the most is our front porch area. My chair is located where two walls meet forming a bit of a triangular backdrop where I can pretty much see a wide range of Nature inclusive of visiting critters, birds, trees, flowers, etc. and etc. It is a "Spot" that gives me great comfort to sit within and at times I can sit for hours just observing and enjoying the Beauty around me.
