Planting Roses "My" Way
~ By Mickey Mom ~
Select a good quality plant, you get what
you pay for. Unless your rose is semi-shade tolerant, they need at least
6 hours of sun daily. Soak your rose at least 12 hours before planting as
they always need hydrating.
1 - Trim off any bruised or broken roots.
2 - Dig your hole deeper and wider than your root ball.
3 - Throw an old banana peel and all into the bottom of the hole.
4 - Mix up good potting soil, a little extra fertilizer and a booster such as
Ozmocote.
5 - Make a little hill in the hole of the above mix, place your rose roots
over this hill and add a little more mix. Water in.
6 - Add more soil and water until the rose is even with the surrounding
ground. You can plant a little deeper to just below the graft. This won't
hurt it any and will protect from the cold better. Tamp down good to
remove air pockets.
7 - Make a "moat" about 6 inches out from the rose trunk and fill this
with water, let soak in. I like to mix some used tea leaves in this "moat"
also. The roses love the stuff.
This should do it for you. I have had much success with this method.
