Growing Herbs
~ By Aletha ~
Some Gardeners like to grow Herbs
for there fragrance, medicinal use and also cooking. I like to
grown them for cooking in the summer and so I am going to make a
separate plot for just Perennial Herbs that I do not have to
worry about so much. I love using fresh Herbs in cooking for the
wonderful taste you get.
Here are just some Perennial Herbs that you can grow that will
come back each year: Sweet Marjoram, Parsley, Mint, Sage, Thyme
and Chives. With Herbs it depends on your climate if they will
be perennial or not so make sure you research to see if they
will be perennial or annual, either way love the use of Herbs
in the garden and house.
Annual herbs complete their life cycle in one year; start them
from seed. Some annual Herbs include Coriander, Chervil, Chives,
Oregano, Basil and Dill. Some say the best time to gather Herbs
is in the morning on a dry day.
These are just a few Herbs, there are so many out there and I do
hope for some who have never planted Herbs that they will do so
and enjoy the taste of fresh Herbs in their food.
Okay so we want to lay out an Herb Garden but we look at our yard
and we have to stop and think that there has to be at least 6
hours of sunlight to help the garden and that it does not sit in
a wet spot and must have no tree roots around it.
Finding the area needed we are now going to dig and turn over the
soil then we start to add things to the soil to make it rich and
dark and healthy looking. If you have that type of soil what do
we do next? Well we want to figure out where do we place the
plants to look and do their best; also we have to remember to
weed so are we going to be able to weed reaching in or do we need
to put in stepping stones so we can reach the weeds that way or
go around the plot we have?
Once we have that all in our minds or down on paper we go into
the yard and start to do it and we add our Herbs remembering
to think of maybe adding a statue or a bird fountain or we can
have the Herbs planted like a wagon wheel or even a fan shape
something that is easy for you and also that looks nice when
they grow and mature.
We can add other flowers in our Herb Garden for more color that
is where we become the painter, when you do an Herb Garden
because of all the different shades of green and blue and brown
you become a painter and that is your canvas. So for those that
want to do an Herb Garden take some pictures, show us and let
us know what plants you planted and how they are doing?
