Parsley
~ By Bonnie ~
I have 2 Parsley plants. I love to add Parsley
to just about everything I cook. I use it in chicken, meatloaf, spaghetti and
salmon. When I can my homemade Salsa, I add parsley to it. I use it to
garnish things such as deviled eggs, salads, baked potatoes. I always add
parsley to my olive oil when I am cooking garlic.
If you grow your own Parsley and would like to be able to save it, then you
can put it into the oven on muslin trays, when cooking is finished, this being
repeated several times till thoroughly dry and crisp, when the leaves should
be rubbed in the hands or through a coarse wire sieve and the powder then
stored in tins, so that neither air nor light can reach it, or the good color will
not be preserved.
Parsley is not only used for cooking, but it is an excellent breath freshener.
Just chew a little after a spicy meal.
Parsley comes in different varieties. Curly leaf and Flat leaf are the most
common. I use the flat leaf for cooking.
Parsley is supposed to have many medicinal purposes also. Some of them
being: As a diuretic, lithotriptic, carminative, antihelminthic, stimulant,
emmenagogue (especially seeds), expectorant, laxative and antispasmodic.
Parsley is used as an herb and root in preparations for flushing out the urinary
tract and for preventing and treating kidney gravel.
Parsley root is indicated for use as a mild diuretic.
The internal use of parsley herb is for flatulent dyspepsia, dysuria, and
rheumatic conditions.
Parsley also stimulates delayed menstruation and promotes menstrual flow.
Parsley helps with lowering blood pressure, detoxifying and cleansing the
body, acting as a natural antibiotic and has strong deodorizing properties.
It can be very effective in removing blackheads. The indications of using
parsley are in these conditions: edema, fluid retention, frequent urination,
enuresis (bed-wetting), kidney stones, rheumatic complaints, menstrual
disorders, PMS, indigestion, gas, intestinal worms, swollen glands,
gall-stones, sciatica and lumbago.
As you can see, Parsley is not only tasty, but you can find yourself
experimenting with it for many uses other than cooking!!
