Clematis

~ By Deb ~

We bought our house in the winter so I had no idea what was in the gardens but there was a huge dead plant tied on a very tall trellis just beside the back door and I had no idea what it was at that time.

It was interesting last spring when I wondered around the yard looking for what laid under the snow all winter. There wasn't too much as the elderly lady we bought the house from was 95 and had stopped gardening years ago but had someone come in a look after her yard.

There was some dill and rhubarb behind the house, bushes and trees all old; I don't know what some of the buses are.

Last spring I cut that huge dead plant right down to the ground. It started to grow very quickly. At least once a week I had to tie it up as it was crawling everywhere. I then knew that it was Clematis.

I was disappointed that it only had a few flowers. I'm not sure if there is something that I can do for it to produce more blooms. For a plant that was over 18 feet tall, it only produced about a dozen flowers.

I would like to split it but I don't know if I should. I enjoy this plant very much and hope it has more blooms this year.

The snow just left last week and I checked today and there are buds on the stems so here it goes again!
