One Plant's Journey
~ By Gardening Committee Members ~
Up to this point in time we have
discussed our attraction to gardening, how we decorate our
gardens and the plants that attract us to place in our gardens.
For this month's discussion we focused on "One Plant's
Journey."
We chose one plant and discussed its beginning with us right up
to its maturity and preparedness for the long winter's rest
period. We looked at things like when we first got the plant;
what led us to get it; what type of plant it is; how it was
planted and into what; how it grew; how long a period it
produced; special preparations and how we felt about the plant
overall.
We had a lot of fun discussing our individually chosen plant;
sharing with one another and hope you will find our results
interesting and informative :)

purple flowers. I tried to grow them when I lived in Boulder
Creek with little success. They would grow, stay green, but
never bloom …

cleaning the ground around them …

I have two separate areas, one at one end of my fence and
another at the opposite end. The plant smells like Sage with its
blue lacy delicate flowers and silver color leaves …

When we first moved into our current living spaces, indoors
and out, the one noticeable absence were flowers and/or flowering
shrubs. There were established Trees, some wildflowers growing
here and there amidst them …

The plant I have chosen to discuss is the Yucca Filamentosa. I
bought this plant in July 2008 at my local nursery and the reason
I wanted one of these wonderful plants was my neighbor. She
bought one quite a few years ago and has survived our harsh
winters wonderfully! …

We bought our house in the winter so I had no idea what was
in the gardens but there was a huge dead plant tied on a very tall
trellis just beside the back door and I had no idea what it was at
that time …
