There isn't much funny to say about alcoholism except to acknowledge it's been a raging disease in America for centuries that most people know so little about.
   Let me offer up a few of the unique things about alcoholism.
   The suffers are conflicted with extraordinary egos along with debilitating low self esteem. Their uncontrollable rage at times accounts for much of the spousal abuse seen today. Yet when stable can be very loving and amiable. Most alcoholics find it next to impossible to tell the truth to the point, where after years of heavy drinking, they often can't distinguish reality from the constant lies they have being pronouncing. Now put this recipe together, add the fact that alcoholics by their very nature, are first and foremost the most selfish humans on the planet........and you have a tormented soul who must seek relief from their constant pain they feel and the consequences of their drinking on their loved ones.
   Remember, while alcoholism can be very successfully treated, it is but the symptom of some grave underlying problems. And, without these areas being constantly addressed, the alcoholic and his loved ones will continue to have lives in turmoil.One should always remember however, that an alcoholic has to be held responsible for his own actions.
