Amercian Heart Month
(Submitted by Kathy)
Since 1963, Congress has required the president to declare February ‘American Heart Month’. It was intended to help people to become aware and educate about heart health. You might ask yourself ‘Why should I become aware or educated on heart health?”. For one, cardiovascular diseases are the number one killer here in the states. Stats show women more than men are dying from heart attacks. Many of us know of someone who has had a heart attack, stroke, or some heart related diseases. For some of us heart conditions run in our families which makes us more likely to have heart problems. We can all stand to become a little aware or more conscience, in some cases, of heart health. One place to start on educated yourself about the heart is the American Heart Association website (http://www.americanheart.com). The ’American Heart Association’ can show you how to get involve, give you patient and caregiver information, information on high cholesterol, heart attack and stroke warning signs. Not to mention ways on how to keep your family and yourself heart healthy.Another good place to start would be to make a few changes on how you go about your day like making changes in your diet, using less sodium, exercising, quit smoking. Talk to your doctor on ways you can help decrease your risk of heart diseases. The choice is yours to become aware and educate yourself on heart health.
